Wikipedia Day 2025 on 10 May in Welle7, Bern, is history. Together with around 100 participants, mostly Wikipedians and people who care about the future of free knowledge, the Wikimedia CH association set the course for the years up to 2031. The General Assembly was embedded in this event. Three new board members were elected to the committee.

In different workshops led by Michel Bachmann, participants were asked to answer the following questions:

  • Where can Wikimedia CH make the biggest impact in these fast-changing times?
  • How can we strengthen the open knowledge and software movement?
  • How do we secure our place in an ever-evolving digital world?

The lively discussions provided us with a number of points of reference for the direction we should take. Strengthening communication and awareness of the importance of a free source of knowledge for a democratic society was mentioned frequently. Other focus points were all efforts in the field of Education and the recruitment of new contributors to Wikipedia and their integration into the existing community. The next steps in the strategic process will be based on the results of Wikipedia Day 2025.

After a welcome address by Gerhard Andrey, National Councillor and member of the Parldigi core team, the new candidates for the steering committee introduced themselves during a short round table discussion.

Big thanks to Vice President Catherine Janssens, Treasurer Mauro Cassina, and Jon Becker. They’ve all been on the board for several years and helped shape the development of Wikimedia CH.

The new Members’ Space was also presented, which Wikimedia CH hopes will enable it to foster more intensive exchange and allow active members to participate more fully in the life of the association. Further information is available on request at membership@wikimedia.ch.

A big thanks goes to all who contributed in what form ever to the event.
