Wiki trainers from all over Switzerland met on 24 January 2026 at the Kursaal Bern to share experiences and initiate future projects together with the Wikimedia CH Education Programme for the first time.
Without the tremendous voluntary commitment of Wiki trainers active throughout the country over the past two decades, the Wiki movement in Switzerland would not be what it is today. Chapeau et merci beaucoup!
Wiki trainers not only pass on tips and tricks to active community members – i.e. contributors – but are also happy to share their knowledge with associations, organisations and institutions in the form of needs-oriented workshops and training courses. In addition to traditional educational institutions such as universities and technical colleges, GLAM institutions (GLAM is the acronym for Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums?) in particular belong to the extended circle of very active wiki tool users who want to make free knowledge available to the general public on an open source basis.
By 2025, the wiki trainers present will have passed on their knowledge to over 15 associations, organisations and institutions and trained over 200 people in the use of wiki tools.
In three different workshops, the wiki trainers worked with the Wikimedia CH Education Programme team to develop ideas and suggestions on the following topics:
- Planning wiki trainer events for the 20th anniversary of Wikimedia CH
- Ideas and suggestions for the development of a ‘train-the-trainer programme’
- Networking and partnerships
After the workshop participants presented their results to the plenary, the next steps for the next meeting of wiki trainers were determined. This was followed by the more relaxed part of the event, a dinner together at the YU restaurant (Kursaal Bern).
