The first results from the University of Zurich’s Science Communication in the Age of AI project provide an interesting snapshot of how the Swiss Wikipedia community approaches artificial intelligence. While nearly 90% of Wikipedians use AI tools in their daily lives, 63.9% report never using AI when contributing to Wikipedia. Rather than relying on AI to generate content, those who do use it mainly employ it as a support tool for tasks such as translation, language improvement, and document analysis. 

The findings also suggest that this cautious approach is not driven by a lack of technical skills. On the contrary, Wikipedians report being familiar with AI technologies, but many remain unconvinced that AI improves the quality of Wikipedia articles and express low levels of trust in AI-generated scientific information. 

These are preliminary findings. The research project will continue until January 2029.
