The international awards ceremony on 15 December 2024 is the finale of the Wiki Science Competition 2023, the largest contest for pictures of science in the world. Giles Laurent, a Swiss user, won two international prizes (1st in the “people in science” category with a snapshot of a photographer wearing a ghillie suit, and 2nd in the “non photographic media” category with a video of a volcano eruption next to Litli-Hrútur in Iceland in 2023). He has also won several Swiss national prizes across multiple categories this year and was present at the national awards ceremony on 27 April 2024, during the Wikipedia Day in Bern. Giles Laurent holds the best international placement for Swizterland in the Wiki Science Competition in years.

Wikimedia CH is a global co-sponsor together with Wikimedia Estonia since the second edition in 2019. “Thanks to their support, it has been possible to offer significant prizes, even for second-place runner-ups”, said Alessandro Marchetti, an organizer and Head of Academic Committee of the Wiki Science Competition.

Wikimedia CH’s commitment has expanded in this edition, introducing numerous special prizes to make the competition as inclusive as possible, embracing diverse themes and countries. This time, the Innovation programme of the Swiss chapter sponsored two special prizes:

On Sunday, 15 December, at 16:00 CEST, the online award ceremony will take place . It is a closed event, with invitations limited to jury members and winners.
