Wikimedia CH’s Education Programme has launched a new teaching and learning tool. It was developed in collaboration with LerNetz AG. The module “Knowledge for All – The Open Movement (Wissen für alle – die Open-Bewegung)” presents the philosophy and fundamental principles of free knowledge in an educational format accessible to teachers and pupils. This module is Wikimedia CH’s first publication on the online platform zebis.digital.ch. More will follow.
The module “Knowledge for All – The Open Movement” is in German and addresses the question: Who owns knowledge? Almost everything you find online belongs to someone: a corporation, a publisher, a platform. Often, this is about power and money. But there are also people who share their knowledge freely so that everyone can use it. This is the Open Movement. In the new module, you’ll get to know it: from Wikipedia to platforms you might use every day without realising they’re open. The module explains how people, companies and public authorities handle knowledge and data, and provides guidance on when to share data yourself and when it’s better to protect it.
To mark Wikipedia’s 25th anniversary, Wikimedia CH underscores the importance of media and artificial intelligence literacy (PISA 2029) and neutral, human-curated sources of knowledge through its teaching and learning resources. This is particularly relevant at a time characterised by artificial intelligence, fake news and politically or commercially driven algorithms.
This is precisely where our teaching and learning resources come in: they help teachers and pupils to evaluate digital information critically and use it responsibly.
