The 27 October is the UNESCO World Day for Audiovisual Heritage. As a contribute to this World Day and Wikimedia CH’s Year of Sound our GLAM Expert Amandine Cabrio lead an uploading of sound documents of the collections of the City Library in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Among these gems are recordings related to Radio Hôpital, a pioneering local initiative that anticipated the arrival of local radio on the airwaves in the late 1960s.
This was a cooperation with Memoriav, Switzerland’s national network for the preservation of the country’s audiovisual cultural Heritage. For more than 10 years, Memoriav, under the patronage of the Swiss UNESCO Commission, has coordinated the nationwide mediation and publicization of events and projects around the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage.
The audio-visual department at the La Chaux-de-Fonds Library celebrated 100 years of radio in Switzerland with us. To mark the occasion, a selection from their sound archives has been made available on Wikimedia Commons.
Wikimedia CH uploaded eleven files, including sound files who represent more than six hours of
sound and music and images, all from the collections of the Département audiovisuel.
